I’m Deacon Ken Welcome To My Blog

St. Lawrence was one of the first seven deacons ordained into the Catholic Church. As a loyal servant to Pope St. Sixtus, Deacon Lawrence was martyred three days after Pope St. Sixtus was martyred. The Romans who had Deacon Lawrence martyred were so angry with him that they wanted to make his death as torturous as possible, so they had him slowly roasted alive.

The first seven deacons were ordained with the same words that are used today to ordain all permanent deacons. Becoming an ordained Catholic deacon in September of 2016 was one of the most humbling experiences in my life. It took the love, support and patience of several people to get me to that day and I will be eternally grateful to all of them and will continue to pray for each of them daily.

The first eight months as a deacon have been extremely rewarding. I have learned a great deal and realize that I’m just scratching the surface. The kind words and encouragement I have received have helped me to move past the errors and improve in the areas needed to become a better deacon. Over the next six months I hope to accomplish a few primary goals;

  • Put a training and teaching program in place for the parish altar servers;
  • Complete the development of a 90-minute talk focused on the Holy Spirit working in our lives;
  • Complete the development of a 90-minute talk entitled Building The Virtuous Man; and
  • Bring to market a proprietary App/software platform designed to help people enhance their prayer life.
